I recently saw a 1 star rating of this place written by someone who apparently has very little knowledge of what the feline compound is about or animals in general. She was right in one respect. It isn't a sanctuary and never was. The cats are not rescues and many sanctuaries are not humane places for animals. If she knew the terminology she would have known that. The place is clean, the enclosures (not called cages) are clean and much bigger than the required space sizes set forth by fish and wildlife regulations. All the animals have several sources of clean water. The peacocks (like peacocks all over the world) molt once a year. This is normal. They aren't "plucked" or "sad" and have no contact with humans. They DO NOT "make money" by breeding the cats. They are a non-profit. They deal with zoos all over the world and have some of the rarest animals in the world. Trying to prevent the extinction of these beautiful felines is a major goal. The cats are very healthy and live much longer, healthier lives than they would in the wild or in many "sanctuaries". The person who wrote that review has no knowledge of animals or husbandry at all and her review of how the place looks makes me wonder if she was even there. I will add that it is best to go in the cooler months because the cats like the weather better . I have been a supporter for a very long time and will continue to do so. I urge anyone who appreciates beautiful animals to go visit.
I wish the enclosures were a bit larger and more like a natural habitat for some of the cats, but their breeding programs are very successful. If you love cats, and especially big cats, I'd highly recommend going to the EFBC!
What a great place to visit and see such beautiful big cats! This was my second time at the Twilight Tours, and it didn't disappoint. When you see these big cats tear into a box, or carry off a watermelon like nothing, that's quite a sight!
To hot no cats were out. Clean, nice friendly people. No cats to be seen. Waste of money and a day. Kids were disappointed. They should tell you that before you pay and give you option to go in or not.
Hideous, appalling. Nasty, dirty, tiny cages containing big cats that pace incessantly or lay panting and miserable. It's a breeding program for zoos. It is NOT a sanctuary, it's a torturous prison. Several of the big cats didn't even have water in 100° plus weather. Half plucked peacocks roam sadly about, you can purchase their plucked feathers for $2.00 a piece. This place is a nightmare and must be closed. The owners make money by breeding me unfortunate cats born into a life sentence. Don't go there, don't pay admission, don't even think of doing here...Hideous, cruelty. Disgusting.
This place is awesome!! Lots of different cats and very knowledgeable and friendly staff (All volunteers). I highly recommend this place, especially their twilight tours!
